Four months before its 100th anniversary this November, the landmark hotel has unveiled the first completed guestrooms as part of The Barclay Reimagined, a long-term vision that blends contemporary luxury with nearly a century of New York hospitality.
Since opening in 1926, the Barclay has been a quiet fixture of Manhattan’s East Side, hosting world leaders, business travellers, celebrities and generations of visitors seeking an elegant address just steps from Park Avenue, Fifth Avenue shopping, Grand Central Terminal and Broadway.
The newly redesigned guestrooms mark the first phase of a broader transformation that will gradually extend to additional accommodations, public spaces and event venues over the coming years. Rather than reinventing the property, the project focuses on preserving the hotel’s timeless character while thoughtfully enhancing the guest experience.

The unveiling is the latest milestone in the hotel’s Journey to 100 campaign, a year-long celebration that has highlighted the property’s rich history through initiatives including Parlour Through the Decades, The Barclay Times, The Barclay Playlist, and The Barclay Residence. Together, these storytelling experiences have explored the people, architecture and memorable moments that have shaped one of New York City’s enduring luxury hotels.
Today, the InterContinental New York Barclay offers 704 guestrooms, including 32 suites, along with two signature penthouse accommodations, more than 20,000 square feet of event space, elegant ballrooms, and The Parlour, its sophisticated cocktail lounge. The hotel continues to balance residential warmth with modern luxury while maintaining a strong commitment to sustainable hospitality.
Additional details about The Barclay Reimagined are expected to be announced throughout 2027 as the transformation continues.
