Each December, Miami Beach takes on a different energy. Artists, collectors, designers, celebrities and curious travelers arrive from around the world for Art Basel Miami Beach, an event that has grown far beyond the walls of the convention center to become one of North America’s most anticipated cultural weeks.
For 2026, Art Basel Miami Beach returns December 4–6, with VIP Preview Days on December 2 and 3, at the Miami Beach Convention Center. This year’s edition will bring together 272 exhibitors from more than 40 countries and territories, combining established names with emerging artists and galleries from across the Americas and around the world.
A Fresh Look for 2026
Visitors familiar with Art Basel Miami Beach will notice some significant changes.
The 2026 fair introduces a substantially redesigned showfloor intended to make the experience more focused and easier to navigate. The overall footprint will be approximately 12 percent smaller, with longer sightlines, fewer galleries in the main sector and blue-chip exhibitors distributed more widely throughout the convention center rather than concentrated in one area.
The result should make one of the world’s largest contemporary art fairs feel more approachable, encouraging visitors to wander beyond familiar names and discover something unexpected.
More than 30 galleries will participate for the first time, while Latin America and the Caribbean will once again have a particularly strong presence. Brazil represents the show’s third-largest national contingent, alongside significant participation from the United States, Europe, Asia, Africa and beyond.

From Modern Masters to Digital Art
Art Basel is not simply about what’s hanging on gallery walls.
The fair’s main Galleries sector brings together Modern, postwar and contemporary works, while Nova focuses on newer work, Positions gives emerging artists dedicated solo presentations, and Survey revisits historically significant artistic practices deserving renewed attention.
One of the more forward-looking components is Zero 10, Art Basel’s initiative dedicated to art of the digital era. Its 2026 presentation, Generation, will feature 19 projects encompassing physical and digital media from artists and collectives including Refik Anadol, Jon Rafman, Sarah Meyohas, Random International and Studio Drift.
It reflects how rapidly the definition of collecting is evolving as technology, digital media and traditional artistic practice increasingly intersect.
Beyond the Convention Center
One reason Art Basel Miami Beach has become such a compelling travel experience is that the fair extends well beyond the show floor.
For 2026, the Turrell Art Foundation and Art Basel, supported by Pace Gallery, will unveil a major outdoor body of work by celebrated light-and-space artist James Turrell, free to the public.
Nearby in Collins Park, Public Art Fund will present Between Tides, featuring six artist-designed sculptural ping-pong tables that visitors can actually play on, turning contemporary art into a surprisingly social experience.
Across South Florida, museums and cultural institutions join the conversation. The week’s programming includes exhibitions at The Bass, Pérez Art Museum Miami, the Institute of Contemporary Art Miami, Lowe Art Museum, Norton Museum of Art and numerous private collections and galleries.

Art Basel, Miami Style
Of course, experiencing Art Basel doesn’t have to mean spending every waking hour looking at art.
Miami Beach offers a natural counterbalance to the fair’s intensity. Start the morning with a walk along the Atlantic, spend several hours exploring the Convention Center, then retreat for a spa treatment, a poolside afternoon or a relaxed dinner.
That combination of stimulation and restoration is part of Miami’s appeal during Art Basel week. Visitors can immerse themselves in some of the world’s most provocative contemporary art while still making room for sunshine, movement, wellness and the city’s distinctive mix of Latin American, Caribbean and international influences.
For first-time visitors, seeing everything is nearly impossible. A better approach is to choose a few priorities each day and leave enough space for discovery. Art Basel rewards curiosity, and often the work you remember most isn’t the one you came expecting to see.
