Nordic spas feel especially appealing as temperatures begin to fall. Add the salt air and expansive coastal landscape of New Brunswick, and the setting becomes even more compelling.

Usva by-the-Sea has officially opened in St. Andrews, bringing a new Nordic-inspired wellness experience to one of Atlantic Canada’s most storied seaside destinations.

Located at 90 Prince of Wales Street and neighbouring the historic Algonquin Resort, Autograph Collection, the spa overlooks Passamaquoddy Bay and is designed to be enjoyed throughout the year.

It is the second location for the Atlantic Canadian Usva Spa brand, following its original Moncton location, and its first seaside property.

A Nordic Spa on the Coast

At the heart of Usva by-the-Sea is the Nordic thermal cycle, a wellness tradition built around alternating heat, cold and periods of rest.

Guests can move between outdoor hot and cold pools, a Finnish sauna, a steam sauna and relaxation spaces, allowing the experience to unfold slowly against the natural backdrop of the New Brunswick coast.

Designed by Design Plus Architecture, the property draws on its maritime surroundings while complementing the character of neighbouring St. Andrews and The Algonquin Resort.

The result is an experience that feels particularly well matched to its destination. In summer, the Bay of Fundy region comes alive with outdoor activity. During the cooler months, misty mornings, crisp air and Atlantic weather create an entirely different atmosphere for soaking, warming and slowing down.

Wellness Beyond the Summer Season

Usva by-the-Sea also represents something increasingly important in Canadian wellness tourism: creating destinations that give travellers a reason to visit outside the traditional peak season.

St. Andrews has long been one of New Brunswick’s best-known summer escapes. Usva is positioning wellness as another reason to experience the town in fall, winter and spring.

“Usva by-the-Sea is about more than a new spa — it’s about creating a reason for people to visit St. Andrews in every season,” says Geneviève Nolet, founder of Usva Spa.

That year-round approach can have an impact well beyond the spa. Wellness travellers tend to combine their visits with accommodation, dining, shopping and other experiences, helping support the broader tourism community during periods that have traditionally been quieter.

Stay Next Door at The Algonquin

For travellers looking to build a wellness getaway around the experience, Usva’s partnership with The Algonquin Resort St. Andrews by-the-Sea, Autograph Collection creates a natural combination.

The landmark resort dates to 1889 and sits on 220 acres overlooking the Bay of Fundy. Along with its distinctive Tudor-style architecture, the property offers 233 guestrooms, dining, recreation and an acclaimed seaside golf course.

Together, the resort and neighbouring Nordic spa give visitors the ingredients for an easy coastal wellness escape: stay at one of Atlantic Canada’s classic resorts, explore the historic town of St. Andrews, spend time outdoors and set aside a few hours to move slowly through the thermal circuit.

Unlike the traditional idea of a seaside getaway, this one may be even more inviting when you need a sweater.

A New Wellness Destination for Atlantic Canada

Nordic-inspired spas have become an increasingly important part of Canada’s wellness landscape, particularly as travellers look for experiences that combine nature, social connection and relaxation without requiring a highly structured retreat.

Usva by-the-Sea brings that formula to a part of Canada where the surrounding landscape becomes an essential part of the experience.

For St. Andrews, it adds another dimension to an already established destination. For wellness travellers, it offers a new reason to head east, perhaps when the weather turns cooler, and the restorative appeal of hot water, fresh air and a quiet coastline feels just right.
